Role Overview
The Operations Unit Leader – Nomex is responsible for leading daily operations in the Nomex manufacturing unit, ensuring safe, stable, and efficient production. This leader oversees operator teams, drives process discipline, implements best-in-class manufacturing practices, and ensures consistent delivery of high-quality Nomex fibers and products.
This role is ideal for a proactive, hands-on operations leader with strong technical acumen and a passion for developing people and optimizing manufacturing systems.
Reporting to the Global Operations Leader for Aramids Business the Nomex Unit leader will be responsible for key performance indicators in the following areas:
EH&S Performance.
Production to Plan.
Delivery to Promise.
TEEP / OEE.
Yield / Quality.
Plant Fixed & Variable Cost Productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Communicates performance goals, metrics, and outcomes for the organization to safely and efficiently meet production goals and the customer’s needs; leads change to meet business needs.
Provide day-to-day leadership for the Nomex production unit, ensuring high performance across safety, quality, throughput, and cost.
Maintain strict adherence to all operational procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure reliable and efficient operation of all assets, equipment, and production processes.
Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and internal process safety protocols.
Lead incident investigations, mitigation actions, and preventive measures.

Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement
Promotes commitment to Operational Excellence by engaging team members to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, eliminate waste, remove barriers, and build a sense of ownership; uses lean and digital tools effectively.
Evaluate production data to identify performance trends, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.
Lead root‑cause analyses, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, or similar methodologies.
Support process optimization, debottlenecking, and cost‑reduction projects.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Engages with leaders to stay informed of the business strategy and needs; engages with employees to communicate business strategy and gain insight on strengths and challenges to delivery of strategy.
Partner with engineering, maintenance, quality, supply chain, R&D, and technology teams to meet production targets and drive improvements.
Support new product introductions, trials, and technology upgrades related to Nomex.
Communicate operational performance, risks, and improvement plans to business leadership.
Planning & Execution
Manage daily and weekly production schedules to meet customer demand and service expectations.
Ensure all documentation, work instructions, and operating standards are current and consistently followed.
Support operational readiness, risk assessments, and emergency response planning.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Chemical Processing, or related technical field (advanced degree a plus).
5+ years of manufacturing or operations leadership experience, ideally in continuous‑process, chemical, fiber, polymer, or materials production.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a safety-critical manufacturing environment.
Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
Experience with Lean/Six Sigma or other structured continuous improvement systems is strongly preferred.
