Our Profile
In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
Health & Safety Officer
The Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the mining operation complies with all health and safety regulations and standards. The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Strategy and Implementation:
Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with company and regulatory standards.
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations and legislation as related to the mineral industry.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures.
Regularly review and update risk management strategies.
Incident Management:
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes.
Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Auditing and Compliance:
Conduct regular health and safety audits and inspections of mine sites, facilities, and equipment.
Ensure proper documentation and reporting of safety metrics and compliance.
Training and Awareness:
Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
Promote a culture of safety awareness through campaigns, workshops, and toolbox talks.
Emergency Preparedness:
Develop and test emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and crisis management strategies.
Coordinate emergency drills and liaise with local emergency services.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead by example, demonstrate sense of urgency
Act as a mentor and leader for junior health and safety staff.
Collaborate with management and operational staff to integrate safety into all processes.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor workplace conditions and worker behaviors to ensure adherence to safety standards.
Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on safety performance and compliance
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree In Occupational Health & Safety
Certificate in health & Safety (NEBOSH or OSHA or Equivalent)
At least 3-5 years in Senior Health & Safety position within large scale industrial construction projects and/ or mining operations.
Strong communication and leadership skills
Developed interpersonal skills.
Excellent decision making, problem solving and priority setting skills.
Developed cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Working Conditions
Position based at the OKO Project site.
Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
Transport, accommodations, and meals provided on site.
