In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
General Foreman – TSF Construction & External Roads Maintenance
The General Foreman is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of TSF construction activities (deforesting, grubbing, and engineered fill), as well as the maintenance and upkeep of external access roads.
Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the role ensures that TSF construction progresses according to engineering and QA/QC requirements, while also maintaining road conditions that support safe and efficient logistics and operations.
The General Foreman leads field teams and contractors to ensure proper sequencing of work, optimal equipment utilization, and adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Execute TSF Construction Plan
Execute TSF construction activities in line with engineering and construction schedules
Ensure proper sequencing: deforesting → grubbing → engineered fill
Monitor progress and adjust activities to meet project timelines
Identify and resolve operational constrain
External Roads Maintenance & Support
Ensure continuous maintenance of external access roads (Puruni Road, New access Road to Site)
Coordinate grading, drainage, and repair works to maintain safe and reliable access
Prioritize critical sections based on weather and traffic conditions
Coordinate with contractors and internal teams for road interventions
Ensure road conditions support safe transport of personnel, fuel, and equipment
Supervise Field Operations
Lead and supervise supervisors, operators, and contractors across:
TSF Construction activities
Road maintenance works
Ensure efficient deployment of equipment :
Dozers, graders, excavators, Long reach excavator, compactors, haul trucks
Optimize hauling cycles and equipment utilization
Ensure effective shift communication and handovers
Quality Control & Compliance
Ensure TSF works comply with engineering specifications and QA/QC requirements
Coordinate with QA/QC technician for:
* Surface approvals before fill placement
* Adequate material to be used
* Compaction and density compliance
Monitor and enforce quality standards in road maintenance works (grading, drainage, materials)
Address non-conformities promptly
Safety Leadership & Compliance
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all activities
Ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures
Conduct field inspections (TSF + roads)
Ensure implementation of JSA / Take-5
Manage risks related to traffic, heavy equipment, and working interfaces
Manage risks associated with bush clearing in swampy environment
Workforce & Contractor Management
Coordinate internal teams and contractors
Ensure adequate manpower for both TSF and road activities
Support training and competency development
Promote accountability, discipline, and teamwork
Scope of responsibility & Complexity
The General Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day execution of TSF construction and external road maintenance activities.
The role is critical to:
Ensuring TSF construction quality and compliance
Maintaining continuous and safe site access
Supporting overall mine operations through reliable infrastructure
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other departments (e.g., geology, maintenance, engineering) to ensure smooth operations.
Communicate any issues, challenges, or potential risks to the Mine Operations superintendent in a timely manner
Participate in regular team meetings and collaborate with colleagues on process improvements.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
Degree in civil Engineering, Mining or related field or equivalent field experience.
At least 7-10 years’ experience in a similar role:
TSF construction, engineered fill, or dam/earthworks projects
Road construction and maintenance in Mining or remote environments
Good understanding of QA/QC requirements:
Compaction standards, density testing, moisture control
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing ground and weather conditions
Basic proficiency with reporting tools (Excel, word, …)
Working Conditions
Position based at the OKO Project site.
Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
