Role Purpose:
The Exploration Database Technician is responsible for the accurate collection, validation, management, and maintenance of geological, geochemical, geophysical, and drilling data within the exploration database system. The role ensures data integrity, quality control, and timely reporting to support resource modeling, target generation, and exploration decision-making.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:
1. Database Management
Maintain and administer the exploration database.
Import, validate, and manage drilling, assay, geological logging, and survey data.
Ensure proper data storage, backup, and version control.
Maintain database security and user access controls.
2. Data Validation & Quality Control (QA/QC)
Perform routine QA/QC checks on collar, survey, lithology, and assay data.
Validate laboratory assay certificates and reconcile discrepancies.
Identify and correct database errors or inconsistencies.
Support implementation of QA/QC protocols for drilling programs.
3. Data Integration & Reporting
Develop and run SQL queries for reporting, analysis, and data extraction. Prepare regular drilling progress reports and data summaries.
Assist geologists with data queries and technical reporting.
Compile datasets for resource estimation and audits.
4. Field & Drill Program Support
Coordinate drill hole numbering and database setup for new programs.
Ensure timely entry of daily drilling data.
Monitor sample submission tracking and laboratory turnaround times.
Liaise with field geologists, drill contractors, and laboratories.
5. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain data management procedures and SOPs.
Ensure compliance with reporting standards (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101).
Support internal and external audits of exploration data
Minimum qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents:
Diploma or Degree in Geology, Geoinformatics, Database Management, or related field.
Proficiency in SQL (medium level) – ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot queries.
Hands-on experience with database management (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar).
Working Experience –
2–5 years’ experience in mineral exploration data management (gold mining preferred).
Experience with geological database software (Datamine Fusion preferred).
Knowledge of QA/QC procedures in mineral exploration.
Use Python scripts (basic to intermediate level) for automation, data transformation, and quality checks.
