In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
Health and Safety Supervisor
The Health & Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of health and safety protocols at our mining site. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mining health and safety regulations, a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks, and a strong ability to lead safety programs to ensure the well-being of all personnel on-site. The supervisor will play a key role in creating a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Implement Safety Protocols: Lead the development, implementation, and review of site-specific health and safety policies, procedures, and safety management systems.
Monitor Compliance: Ensure that all site operations comply with regulatory requirements, including OSHA, MSHA, and environmental health and safety regulations.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions or preventive measures.
Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs, conduct safety drills, and ensure all employees and contractors are trained on safe work practices and emergency response procedures.
Incident Reporting and Investigation: Oversee the reporting, investigation, and documentation of all accidents, injuries, and near-misses. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
Safety Audits and Inspections: Perform routine safety audits and inspections to ensure all equipment, machinery, and infrastructure meet safety standards. Report any discrepancies and coordinate with maintenance teams for corrective actions.
Emergency Response: Lead or assist in emergency response planning and coordination, ensuring all workers are aware of emergency procedures, evacuation plans, and first-aid protocols.
Maintain Safety Records: Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of safety incidents, training records, inspection results, and compliance reports.
Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by keeping up to date with industry best practices, new safety technologies, and emerging regulations.
Collaboration: Work closely with management, employees, contractors, and safety representatives to promote a proactive safety culture and resolve safety-related issues.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety or related field.
Certificate in health & Safety (NEBOSH or OSHA or Equivalent
Strong knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations and standards. Advanced computer skills. Good oral and written communication skills. Developed cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Excellent decision making, problem solving and priority setting skills.
Developed interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work in a remote location.
Working Conditions
Position based at the OKO Project site.
Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
Transport, accommodations, and meals provided on site.
Compensation Package
1-year contract for the construction period, with the possibility of a permanent position once the mine is in operation.
