In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
General Physician
The Senior Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the operation complies with all health and safety regulations and standards. The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Services
Provide general medical consultations and treatment to employees and contractors.
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
Administer first aid and emergency medical care.
Stabilize patients for evacuation when necessary.
Prescribe medications in accordance with company policy and national regulations.
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
2. Emergency Response
Respond promptly to workplace accidents and medical emergencies.
Lead medical emergency response during incidents (trauma, burns, fractures, heat stress, etc.).
Coordinate medical evacuations (ground or air) when required.
Participate in site emergency drills and preparedness planning.
3. Occupational Health
Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and exit medical examinations.
Monitor fitness-for-duty assessments.
Identify occupational health risks and recommend preventive measures.
Conduct health surveillance programs (e.g., dust exposure, noise, chemical exposure).
Advise management on workplace health risks and compliance requirements.
4. Health Promotion & Preventive Care
Implement wellness programs (e.g., malaria prevention, heat stress awareness, lifestyle management).
Conduct health education sessions for employees.
Monitor communicable diseases and manage outbreaks if necessary.
Promote vaccination programs where applicable.
5. Compliance & Reporting
Ensure compliance with national health regulations and mining safety laws.
Maintain confidentiality of medical records.
Prepare monthly medical reports and statistics.
Liaise with local hospitals, laboratories, and regulatory authorities.
6. Clinic Management
Oversee the operation of the site medical facility.
Supervise nurses, medics, and other medical staff.
Ensure adequate stock of medicines and medical supplies.
Maintain medical equipment and emergency kits.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Valid Medical Council registration and license to practice.
Minimum 3–5 years’ post-internship experience (experience in remote or occupational health settings preferred).
Training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Experience in trauma and emergency care is an asset.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations
Working Conditions
Position based at the OKO Project site.
Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
