Synthetic entirely replaces small business bookkeepers. We are synthetically recreating the professional service of bookkeeping using AI. Our product processes financial data, manages bookkeeping workflows, and communicates with customers autonomously.
We are the founding team that previously built Bench Accounting from an idea to a successful business with over $100M raised and more than 600 employees, and Teal, which was acquired by Mercury. We're back in the SMB accounting space, this time pursuing an even bigger opportunity.
Synthetic is brand new as of November 2025 and currently a four person team. We're looking for someone smart, highly organized, and relentlessly dependable to take ownership of the office and everything that keeps the team operating smoothly.
This role is fully onsite in San Francisco, working alongside the founding team six days a week.

What you'll do here
• Own day to day office operations and ensure the team can operate without friction.
• Manage the office environment so it is organized, functional, and productive.
• Run the hiring process from drafting job descriptions through offer letters, onboarding, and workspace setup.
• Coordinate travel, team offsites, and internal events.
• Manage vendors, expenses, payroll coordination, and administrative workflows.
• Establish lightweight processes that scale with the company.
• Solve problems quickly and proactively with minimal direction.
• Take on any odd job required to keep the company moving forward.
What you bring to the table
• Driver's license required.
• Comfort working fully onsite in San Francisco.
• Zero attachment to rigid job boundaries. You might be building office furniture in the morning and handling a compliance task that afternoon.
• Strong ownership mentality. When something breaks, you fix it.
• High integrity and discretion.
• A sense of urgency and bias toward action.
• Excellent organizational instincts.
• Startup experience is helpful but not required.
• A severe allergy to nonsense.
