OB/GYN Hospitalist (MD/DO)
Position Summary
The OB/GYN Hospitalist provides comprehensive inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care, with a primary focus on labor and delivery, obstetric emergencies, and inpatient gynecologic consultations. This role supports patient safety, quality outcomes, and continuity of care through close collaboration with community OB/GYN physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary hospital teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide in-hospital coverage for labor and delivery, postpartum, and antepartum patients
• Manage obstetric emergencies, including operative vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections
• Perform obstetric and gynecologic procedures within scope of training
• Provide inpatient gynecologic consultations and surgical assistance as needed
• Triage and evaluate obstetric patients presenting to the hospital
• Collaborate with community OB/GYN physicians, midwives, and advanced practice providers
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and outpatient providers regarding care plans
• Ensure timely documentation and accurate medical records in the electronic health record
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and peer review
• Adhere to evidence-based clinical guidelines, hospital policies, and regulatory standards
• Provide coverage during nights, weekends, and holidays based on scheduling model
Qualifications
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Completion of an accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program
• Board certified or board eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• Active or eligible state medical license
• DEA registration or eligibility
Skills and Competencies
• Expertise in inpatient obstetric management and labor and delivery
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage high-acuity situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and collaborative practice
• Ability to work independently in a hospital-based setting
Requirements:
Must maintain state certification and/or licensure
