MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and prepare healthy, balanced meals for shelter residents, accommodating dietary needs and preferences.
Housekeeping responsibilities in the kitchen, dining area, and common areas to ensure a clean, welcoming, and safe environment.
Manage pantry inventory: organize, track, rotate stock, and coordinate with staff, volunteers, and donors to maintain adequate food supplies.
Foster community by creating positive, inclusive mealtimes that encourage connection and support among residents.
Teach and mentor families on practical nutrition topics, including meal planning, cooking skills, grocery budgeting, and healthy lifestyles.
Serve as a positive role model for families in the shelter, demonstrating respect, empathy, and healthy habits.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required; formal or informal culinary training is a plus.
Food service experience.
Janitorial or housekeeping experience, formal or informal.
Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and meal planning.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and practice trauma-informed care.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Ability to prepare nutritious, appealing meals for groups.
Strong organizational skills for inventory management and meal planning.
Good interpersonal skills for building rapport with residents and working collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
