Join SDR Living as a Night Porter – Make a Real Difference!
Location: Eastbourne, East Sussex
Salary: £13.45 per hour (Reviewed Annually)
Hours: 22 hours per week (set shifts: Friday 23:00–09:00 & Saturday 21:00–09:00)
Contract: Permanent, part-time
Additional: Willingness to cover overtime as needed
At SDR Living, we provide short-term accommodation for local families and individuals experiencing homelessness on behalf of East Sussex local authorities. Our professional, collaborative, and supportive team ensures residents have a safe and welcoming place to stay.
We are looking for a Night Porter to join our Eastbourne service. You’ll ensure the smooth running of night shifts, welcome residents, check them in on arrival, and assist with practical tasks such as booking laundry appointments or liaising with local councils. You’ll also carry out regular walkarounds of the building to ensure both residents and the property remain safe, and signpost residents to relevant local services as needed.
Working as a Night Porter can be challenging at times, so a calm, empathetic, and professional approach is essential. This role is ideal for someone motivated, reliable, and keen to work in housing, with the opportunity to develop within a supportive team. As a Night Porter, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and structured environment for residents.

Key Responsibilities as a Night Porter
Deliver an efficient and welcoming night service to residents
Implement night security systems to maintain safety and security
Carry out regular walkarounds to check the building and residents are safe
Monitor and maintain health and safety standards throughout the premises
Respond effectively to anti-social behaviour and incidents
Support residents with practical needs while maintaining professional boundaries
Who We’re Looking For
Calm and composed under pressure
Understanding and empathetic towards residents
Confident working independently and using initiative
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge or willingness to learn about mental health, equality, and diversity issues
