Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Neurosurgical Physician Assistant to join our growing team. This position will primarily support neurosurgical services across both the office and hospital settings, while also assisting with orthopedic and spine related patient care as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment.
This role involves a combination of outpatient evaluation and follow-up care, inpatient rounding, surgical support, and coordination of care for patients with neurosurgical and spine related conditions. The Physician Assistant will work closely with neurosurgeons, physician assistants, advanced practice providers, and the broader clinical team to deliver high quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive clinical support for neurosurgical patients in office, hospital, and surgical settings.
Act as an efficient first assist with intra operative skills and skin closure
Perform patient evaluations, including medical histories, physical examinations, and assessment of neurosurgical, spinal, and related musculoskeletal conditions.
Assist in the development and implementation of treatment plans under the direction of the supervising physician.
Support neurosurgical procedures, including pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative management, as appropriate.
Conduct inpatient rounds, evaluate consults, and participate in ongoing management of hospitalized patients.
Provide office based consultations, follow-up evaluations, and post-operative visits for neurosurgical and spine patients.
Review and interpret diagnostic studies including MRI, CT, X-ray, EMG, and laboratory results in collaboration with the supervising physician.
Assist in the coordination of care across specialties, including orthopedics, pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and internal medicine, as needed.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and follow-up care.
Complete timely and accurate documentation, including histories and physicals, progress notes, discharge summaries, operative assistance documentation, and other required medical records.
Collaborate with surgeons, advanced practice providers, office staff, hospital staff, and ancillary departments to ensure efficient patient care and continuity across settings.
Respond to clinical questions, patient concerns, and urgent issues in a professional and timely manner.
Participate in call coverage, hospital coverage, and weekend/holiday responsibilities as assigned.
Maintain compliance with all regulatory, credentialing, and practice standards.
Perform all other duties as assigned in support of the clinical and operational needs of the practice.
Qualifications:
Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of New Jersey.
NCCPA certification required.
Active DEA registration required, or ability to obtain.
Minimum of 2 to 3 years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant preferred; New graduates considered
Prior experience in neurosurgery, spine surgery, orthopedic surgery, hospital based medicine, or a related surgical specialty strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of neurosurgical, spinal, and musculoskeletal conditions, treatment pathways, and perioperative care.
Ability to function effectively in both office and hospital environments.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
Strong clinical judgment and ability to work efficiently in a high acuity setting.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Ability to work independently within scope while also functioning as part of a collaborative care team.
Additional Requirements:
Must be comfortable working in office, hospital, and operating room settings.
Flexibility to travel between practice locations and hospital as needed.
Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and call responsibilities if applicable.
