Network Engineer - 400301

Provides network, communications and system engineering and integration services necessary to design new and upgraded networks and install equipment required to provide communications networking services.

Responsibilities:

Designs, acquires, implements and supports network infrastructure. Designs logical Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) network structures for new and renovated facilities. Designs physical cable plants for network and phone systems. Designs Information Technology (IT) systems facilities, including server and network communication rooms. Assists the installation of designed systems. Programs and supports network switches and routers.

• Influences team members, the customer, and vendors to define, analyze, and provide solutions for the customer’s voice, data, and image communications requirements.
• Prepares complex workprints and schematics to define and illustrate entire network structures and solutions.
• Identifies and recommends new design tools for use in communications projects.
• Provide engineering support for the design of inter-building base cable infrastructure for both fiber optic and copper cable plants according to Electronic Industries Alliance/Telecommunications Industry Association (EIA/TIA) standards and WPAFB Installation Facility Standards (IFS), Section 10 Telecommunications, for both new requirements and 88CS internal projects.
• Interface with Engineering Teammates to include Partner Companies and Government Personnel resulting in positive team relations on 100% of all customer support activities and initiatives
• Provide initial technical solutions, costs estimates and bills of material (BOM) for funded projects within 30 working days from receipt of task maintaining a 90% timeliness rate. IAW PWS
• Accurately record hours worked in time accounting system each day worked or as otherwise directed by Leadership, with 100% compliance, and provide appropriate inputs to the Weekly and Monthly Activity Reports on time as directed by Task Lead and/or Team Lead, with 100% compliance

Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in network systems processes and procedures or skills equivalent to Air Force certification for the position task
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 2 years of experience in networking and computer systems. An additional 3 years experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.
• Some technical writing skills
• Some system diagram with drawing tools skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio applications.
• Required: DoD 8140.03
• Information Assurance Technical Level I (IAT-I) Certification: Certified Automation Professional (CAP), Global Information Security Fundamentals (GISF), Global Security Leadership Certificate (GSLC) or Security+ (Security+ preferred)
• Operating System (OS) Certification – Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) preferred.
• Required: Secret Clearance, with ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
