GENERAL DESCRIPTION
As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience creating and preparing 3D assets for use in real-world simulation software. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with professional modeling, texturing, and deployment workflows while collaborating with experienced engineers and operations staff who will provide mentorship throughout the process. You will build a deeper understanding of the full asset lifecycle from initial modeling and texturing through integration, testing, and delivery and will develop practical skills in Blender, Procreate, and material editing. By the end of the internship, you will have created portfolio-ready work that demonstrates both technical and artistic capability, along with a strong foundation in content pipelines used in modern simulation systems.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
3D Model Development:
Use Blender to create, modify, and optimize lowpoly and midpoly 3D models for use in simulation environments.
Texture Creation & Editing:
Use Procreate and other tools to paint or refine texture maps, decals, and material elements.
Asset Review & Validation:
Load and check models in Microsoft 3D Viewer and within internal tools to confirm scaling, orientation, and visual quality.
Material & File Tweaks:
Edit shader/material files in VS Code to adjust parameters, fix issues, or integrate updated textures.
Imagery & Asset Management:
Help organize, update, and track 2D/3D asset libraries to ensure all content is accurate, current, and properly packaged for deployment.
Integration into Installation Packages:
Assist with preparing models, textures, and supporting files for integration into installer packages used during software delivery.
Documentation & Notes:
Maintain clear notes, checklists, and basic technical documentation for asset workflows, naming conventions, and organization standards.
Cross-team Collaboration:
Work with Engineering, Operations, and Support teams to ensure models and textures meet product requirements and function correctly during testing.
Quality Checking:
Participate in testing to verify assets load properly, appear correctly, and perform reliably across different runtime environments.
REQUIREMENTS
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited university
Experience using Blender for modeling, UV work, or basic texturing
Familiarity with Procreate or similar digital painting tools
Ability to inspect and evaluate models in Microsoft 3D Viewer or similar applications
Basic comfort editing files in VS Code (materials, JSON/XML, or simple config files)
Introductory experience with Python scripting, ideally inside Blender
Strong attention to detail, especially regarding scale, naming, and visual accuracy
Good communication skills and willingness to document work and follow established workflows
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and processes
DESIRABLE
Coursework or personal projects involving 3D modeling, digital art, or game/simulation assets
Familiarity with PBR (Physically Based Rendering) texture workflows
Understanding of lowpoly optimization or billboard imagery
Interest in simulation, game development, or content pipelines
Experience working with structured version control or asset repositories
Experience with Atlassian Products (JIRA, Confluence)
