Position Status: Full time permanent (40 hrs per week)
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is seeking a full-time Mobile Employment Services Operator (Driver) who will be responsible for safely driving a Métis Training & Education (MTE) mobile unit to Métis communities throughout Alberta. Reporting to the Coordinator of Mobile Employment Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning routes, setting up the RV unit, organizing displays, assisting clients, and ensuring computers/technical equipment is ready for client use. The Mobile Employment Services Operator will also ensure that the mobile unit is clean, well maintained, regularly serviced, and operating optimally. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and experience operating large vehicles with a class 5 License.
Key Responsibilities
Plan cost effective, efficient travel routes within Alberta, and drive and operate the mobile unit to and from communities while complying with all applicable laws and regulations of the road.
Engage in quarterly planning of routes with the Coordinator of Mobile Employment Services.
Secure and arrange parking, permits, and/or permissions in secure and accessible locations in the communities. Ensure Access to power and fresh water supply.
Staff the mobile unit at all times while parked and ensure the unit is visible and accessible to the general public during business hours.
Secure the mobile unit for safe transport and set up in each location.
Clean the exterior of the mobile unit at the end of each week and conduct additional washing/cleaning as required. Ensure the interior is kept clean and neat at all times along with keeping the warehouse clean and tidy.
Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy warehouse.
Schedule routine maintenance and warranty work on the mobile unit and document all maintenance completed in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures for commercial vehicles.
Ensure registration and operating documents are in order and present in the unit.
Market the MTE (Metis Training and Employment) mobile unit to the general public and provide recommendations to the Coordinator of Mobile Employment Services regarding advertising needs and resources.
Present the Education, Training and Research information to community organizations, employers and clients.
Ensure that up-to-date marketing material is in stock, including community specific program flyers/project posters, and current and sufficient labour market information.
Greet visitors provide basic reception duties when counsellors are busy or unavailable.
Ensure client computers, printers, and internet are in working order and secure at all times. Liaise with e Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s IT department to troubleshoot any tech issues that arise.
Submit weekly visitor sign-in logs to the Coordinator of Mobile Employment Services.
Provide quarterly reports to the Coordinator of Mobile Employment Services regarding locations visited, number of clients, and any relevant community information.
Complete daily logs and vehicle maintenance checklists for submission.
Travel with the designated MTE Advisor on a weekly basis (may be outside of regular route) and collaborate with the Advisor for community engagement on site.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Competencies
Ability to safely operate and maintain an RV unit.
Knowledge of Alberta highways, provincial driving laws and requirements.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Basic computer knowledge including e-mail, word processing, printers, and internet.
Knowledge of Otipemisiwak Metis Government and Education, Training and Research Department.
Basic understanding of labour market conditions, and economic and employment outlook is an asset.
Strong public relations and interpersonal skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, community members, and staff.
Qualifications
Class 5 license with air brake endorsement is required.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of operating motor vehicles that require class 5 license.
Clean, current commercial driver’s abstract.
Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement is an asset.
Administrative working experience is an asset.
Experience working with Métis or Indigenous communities is an asset.
Current First Aid certification is an asset.
Other Requirements
Ability to work some flexible weekdays and weekend hours.
Ability to travel throughout Alberta for extended periods, with overnight stays as required.
Reliable transportation to and from the office/warehouse.
Submission of a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
