Job Description

Shape the Face of Cancer Treatment at Luminate Medical

At Luminate, our mission is to make cancer care more human. We design and build technologies that help oncologists make cancer care better, faster, and safer for patients.

Our first two products, Lily and Lilac, are revolutionary wearable devices designed to address hair loss and peripheral neuropathy, respectively – two of the most common and difficult side effects of cancer treatment. We have an exciting pipeline focused on building products that help cancer patients to live, not just survive. Our latest product, Lotus, enables at-home administration of low-risk anti-cancer drugs.

We’re looking for a Mobile App Developer to design, build and maintain mobile applications that connect nurses and patients as part of our cloud based medical device ecosystem. In this role, you will develop, test and deploy mobile based applications that connect nurses and patients as we develop our medical device ecosystem. As part of our software development team, you will ensure seamless integration between mobile apps and medical devices, with a focus on user experience, regulatory compliance, and secure handling of sensitive patient information.

Working at Luminate Medical

This is a key early hire at a rapidly growing company. You will have the opportunity to shape the development of high-impact patient-facing products and gain first-hand insights into a start-up's growth.

We offer a highly competitive salary comparable with multinational medical device companies (available on application), a flexible benefits package (including health insurance and pension), alongside a company laptop, headphones and a camera.

We believe in quality of life in our product and for our people, offering flexible working hours and a generous vacation policy.

What You Will Do:

Drive patient-focused cancer care products from concept to reality by:

Develop, test and deploy iOS and Android applications using native or cross-platform (React, Flutter) frameworks.

Implement secure authentication and data synchronisation with backend APIs.

Collaborate with other developers in the team on backend integration and data models.

Design and continue to optimise app performance, reliability and usability whilst focusing on user-interface (UI) and user-experience (UX).

Problem-solving platform failures or app integration issues, across devices, OS versions and network conditions.

Participate in agile development cycles and code reviews.

Lead development of Luminate software mobile app by:

Design and implement offline first app, with caching, local storage and data synchronisation logic for limited connectivity.

Integrate services for push notification, utilise camera and geo-location APIs

Collaborate closely with the engineering, regulatory and clinical services team to drive mobile app capabilities for our medical device ecosystem.

Personal Attributes – The Ideal Candidate Is:

Creative: A creative problem solver who is enthusiastic about new ideas.

Open: A proactive team player who seeks to help develop your teammates. You are willing to adopt, engage with and positively shape company culture. You can give and receive candid feedback constructively and positively.

Communicative: Proficient in written and verbal communication and collaboration skills. You can share ideas and support the exploration of others.

Self-Driven: You have a sense of urgency in your work and thrive when taking responsibility for tasks.

Organised: You can prioritise your list of tasks with input from more senior colleagues and ensure actions are completed on time.

Requirements – The Ideal Candidate Must Have:

3+ years of software design experience, ideally in a medical device or similarly regulated environment/apps.

Proficiency in Swift, Kotlin, or React Native/Flutter.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for mobile app backend integration.

Understanding of HIPAA, GDPR and healthcare data security best practices.

Strong experience with integrating REST APIs and GraphQL services.

Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and app store deployment.

A qualification in Software Engineering, or similar.

Advantages – It Would be Advantageous to Have:

Experience with EHR or healthcare data integrations (HL7, FHIR etc).

Background with IoT or connected medical devices and cloud-to-device communication.

Experience working with wearable or home-use medical devices.
