Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

An opportunity exists at Aquila Mine for an experienced Mining Coordinator: Longwall Installs to join the team on a permanent basis. As the Longwall Installs Coordinator you will support the site operational leaders in all aspects of longwall install activities and resources to contribute to the broader site objectives and in accordance with the annual mine plan. You will work with our industry-leading remotely operated autonomous longwall technology.

The mine features two longwall systems (walk on, walk off) ensuring production continuity. Both longwalls are fully remote capable from the site-based Remote Operations Centre (ROC) on the surface of the mine. The Longwall Move department is a vital part of this strategy to maintain longwall continuity.

Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate a core team of operational personnel to safely deliver the longwall move events to maintain longwall continuity
• Work closely with the production Longwall Superintendent and Operations Manager in planning, coordinating all aspects associated with the implementation of longwall move events
• Plan for upcoming Longwall Moves and provide a high level and detailed planning and risk management practice
• Supervise, lead and coordinate the longwall move team to deliver departmental plans and continuous improvement objectives
• Maintain statutory compliance to the mine Safety Health Management System and all legislative requirements
• Demonstrate a commitment to the zero-harm philosophy with an emphasis on delivering safety improvements and efficiencies
• Ensure compliance with all people, safety, technical, operating and business systems, behaviours and culture in your area
• Collaborate and build strong relationships across a range of both internal and external stakeholders
• Deliver on other key performance metrics that will drive performance and results

• Demonstrated experience working in an underground coal mining environment with a proven track record of supervising or coordinating longwall move events
• Supervisor qualifications (S1, 2, 3 & G2)
• Experience or exposure to longwall automation systems, remote operating centre (ROC) and bi-directional cutting
• Demonstrated supervisory experience within the coal mining industry
• Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and its application
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence and achieve buy-in from key stakeholders
• An understanding of key safety risks and ways to mitigate them

• Full-time permanent position based at Aquila Mine, Middlemount
• Monday to Friday site role with 9-day fortnight available
