The Mid DMP Artist is responsible for creating high-quality digital matte paintings that support both 2.5D and integrated 3D workflows. This role involves translating concept art, location photography, and scan data into photorealistic environments and set extensions.
Requirements:
Duties:
• Matte Painting: Create photorealistic DMPs based on concept art, photography, or plate extensions
• Projection Prep: Prepare work for camera projection and 2.5D setups in Nuke or Maya
• Integration: Match lighting, perspective, and atmosphere to fit seamlessly into shots
• Collaboration: Work with compositors, layout, and CG teams to align DMP with camera and shot needs
• On-Set Data: Incorporate lidar, HDRIs, and scan data into DMP creation
• Feedback: Respond to notes from leads and supervisors to iterate quickly
• Scene Organisation: Maintain clean layers, projections, and naming conventions
• Documentation: Note techniques and projection methods for later use or handoff
• Deliver matte paintings that integrate seamlessly into the shot and pipeline
• Maintain accuracy in scale, lighting, and continuity across the sequence
• Work independently on briefs while communicating with surrounding departments
Skills, attributes and experience:
• Proficient in Photoshop, Nuke, Maya, and camera projection techniques
• Solid eye for composition, perspective, light, and atmosphere
• Comfortable with multi-camera setups and basic geometry projection
• Good understanding of set extension workflows and 2.5D integration
• Familiarity with 3D asset integration in DMP workflows
• Experience working from lidar and photogrammetry
• Basic knowledge of USD or layout tools is a plus
• Excellent communicator, sharing information clearly and actively listening
• Strong time management, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and escalate delays in a timely manner
• Adaptable to change with the ability to stay focused and maintain a positive attitude
• Driven to make things better with flexibility to change course when needed
• Positive energy, focusing on results and having a positive impact on those around you
• Self awareness and an ability to resolve and diffuse problems treating others with kindness and respect
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well with others
• 4–5 years in VFX or a related field
