Metering Specialist

Core Purpose of the Role 

To ensure the accuracy, reliability, and availability of metering data across operational assets, enabling correct billing, performance monitoring, compliance, and informed operational decision-making. 

Principal responsibilities: 

Manage and oversee metering systems across operational sites 

Ensure accurate collection, validation, and availability of metering data 

Monitor metering performance and identify faults, data gaps, or anomalies 

Coordinate meter installations, replacements, calibrations, and maintenance 

Liaise with utilities, municipalities, and third-party metering vendors 

Support billing, reconciliation, and revenue verification processes 

Maintain metering documentation, registers, and compliance records 

Support audits, regulatory reporting, and contractual compliance 

 Investigate metering-related disputes or discrepancies and drive resolution 

Any other job duties associated with this role. 

Experience & Skills 

3–6 years’ experience in metering, energy operations, or utility-related roles 

Strong understanding of electrical energy metering principles, including import/export, net metering, losses, smart meter and revenue-grade metering.   

Experience working with metering platforms 

Ability to analyse metering data and identify inconsistencies 

Familiarity with utility, Eskom, municipal, or regulatory metering requirements 

Strong ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), metering schematics, and protection drawings. 

Proven hands-on experience with revenue-grade and operational energy meters, including CT/VT selection, ratio configuration, accuracy classes, wiring, testing, and commissioning 

Proficient in Excel and data reporting tools 

Experience with commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting of energy meters and data acquisition systems.

Comfortable working across technical and commercial teams 

Desirable attributes: 

Solid understanding of PV, BESS, and grid-interconnected systems, including power flow and operational modes 

Experience in solar PV, renewable energy, or embedded generation 

Exposure to O&M environments with multiple sites 

Experience supporting billing or revenue assurance
