You will be responsible for fabricating and assembling high-precision metal components, including elevator cars, frames, and structural supports. This role requires the ability to interpret technical blueprints and use a variety of specialized machinery to ensure all products meet stringent safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine material needs and assembly sequences.
• Metal Fabrication: Set up and operate heavy-duty machinery such as press brakes, shears, plasma cutters, and drill presses to shape raw metal into elevator components.
• Assembly & Joining: Align and fit metal sections using tack welding (MIG/TIG), bolting, riveting, or other specialized fastening techniques.
• Component Installation: Assemble sub-assemblies into finished elevator systems, ensuring proper alignment of car frames and counterweights.
• Quality Control: Conduct meticulous inspections and measurements using calipers and gauges to ensure parts conform to exact specifications and safety codes.
• Finishing Work: Grind, sand, and polish metal surfaces to achieve the high-quality finish required for passenger-facing elevator interiors.
• Record Keeping: Recording production data (e.g., labor time completion, production flow interrupters etc.), using computerized systems
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a trade school certificate in metal fabrication or welding is highly preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication shop, ideally within the elevator or structural metal industry.
• Technical Proficiency:
o Proven ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical manuals.
o Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments (e.g., tape measures, calipers).
o Basic welding knowledge (MIG/TIG) and machine shop experience.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs. (23 kg) frequently, and work in a noisy industrial environment.
• Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision and a commitment to quality to ensure public safety in elevating devices.
Work Environment
• Schedule: Typically, full-time day or afternoon shifts and must be flexible for overtime as production deadlines require.
• Safety Gear: Required PPE includes steel-toed boots, cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
