Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking two compassionate and skilled Mental Health Clinicians, internally known as Case Managers, to join Te Papa Manaaki | Campus Care, part of the Student and Scholarly Services division.

Te Papa Manaaki | Campus Care provides early intervention, wellbeing, and personal support for students and staff who have concerns about a student’s safety, wellbeing, or behaviour. As a Case Manager, you will assess student needs, develop support plans, and ensure warm transfers to appropriate internal or external specialist services.

You will be part of a small, high-performing team committed to supporting students to overcome barriers to success and to navigate the University’s support systems with empathy and professionalism.

Key responsibilities include:

• Triage and manage referrals from staff, students, and other members of the University community.
• Assess risk and provide professional, timely responses to urgent or complex situations.
• Develop and manage support plans for students with wellbeing concerns or complex needs.
• Collaborate with academic, professional, and external support services to coordinate care.
• Maintain accurate case documentation and prepare reports as required.
• Provide advice and guidance to colleagues across the University about student wellbeing and response processes.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the service and its referral processes.

 We have a full-time (37.5 hours per week) and a part-time (30 hours per week) role on a permanent contract available.

The salary range for this role is $87,000 - $107,500 per annum.

Te Papa Manaaki | Campus Care is part of Student and Scholarly Services, which brings together student-facing services that support wellbeing, academic success, and student experience. Campus Care provides a safe and skilled point of contact for the University community to raise concerns about students, including wellbeing, safety, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

The team works closely with other student support and wellbeing services, including University Health and Counselling, Student Hubs, Accommodation Solutions, and Student Disability Services, to ensure that every student is supported to succeed and thrive.

 

He kōrero mōu | About you

Our ideal candidate will bring empathy, sound judgement, and a strong commitment to student wellbeing. You will be confident managing sensitive and complex situations, with a calm and professional approach.

You will also have:

• A tertiary qualification in social work, mental health, counselling, occupational therapy, or a related allied health discipline.
• Registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (e.g., SWRB, NZAC, or equivalent).
• At least five years’ experience providing case management or mental health support to young people or students.
• Strong understanding of wellbeing and support services in tertiary or community settings.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Cultural competence and an understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• A current right to work in NZ.

Preferred:

• Experience working within the tertiary education sector.
• Knowledge of University and community-based support systems.
• Fluency in Mandarin will be advantageous.
