Job Description
About Generation:
At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.
When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed. Three months after completing our program, graduates have an 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings. Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generation’s global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
The MEL Analyst/Manager will support Generation’s third-party impact evaluation program across Colombia, India, and Ghana, helping to build MEL infrastructure and ensure rigorous, coordinated measurement across markets. Reporting to the Global Impact Operations Lead, this role is Colombia-based and will serve as a key in-country connector between D&I, country teams, and external evaluation partners. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract with potential for extension.
This role combines MEL coordination, practical data analysis, and project management. The MEL Analyst/Manager will coordinate multi-country evaluation activities, work closely with country data and program teams to facilitate data collection and quality, manage back-and-forth with evaluation vendors, and contribute to broader D&I impact initiatives including alumni surveys, near-miss analyses, and monitoring workstreams.
This role is designed for a mid-level MEL professional who is equally comfortable with analysis and execution. Over time, strong performance may open pathways to a permanent MEL Manager or Senior Analyst role within Generation’s growing Data & Impact function.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
MEL Coordination & Evaluation Management
Coordinate day-to-day evaluation activities across the three LIF-funded third-party impact evaluations (Colombia, India, Ghana), including timelines, deliverable tracking, and vendor follow-up
Serve as the primary liaison between D&I, country program and data teams, and external evaluation vendors; facilitate information flow and maintain alignment across stakeholders
Support survey design, piloting, and data collection logistics in collaboration with country teams and vendors; flag data quality issues and coordinate resolution
Maintain evaluation trackers, indicator frameworks, and MEL documentation; support monitoring activities across program cycles
Contribute inputs to evaluation design discussions led by senior D&I team members; ensure country-level context and data realities are well represented
Data Analysis & Monitoring Support
Conduct initial analysis of survey and monitoring data; identify data quality issues, patterns, and gaps
Support broader D&I monitoring workstreams including alumni surveys and near-miss analyses, working with Impact Operations team
Translate data findings into clear summaries and internal briefs for D&I leadership
Help build and document emerging MEL processes and systems; comfort creating structure where it doesn’t yet exist
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication
Build and maintain relationships with in-country data and program teams (Colombia, India, Ghana); facilitate smooth coordination across time zones and contexts
Manage ongoing communication with evaluation vendors; track open questions, deliverables, and timelines on their behalf with D&I leadership
Prepare clear meeting summaries, status updates, and coordination documents to keep multi-country workstreams on track
Support funder-facing materials where relevant (e.g., progress updates to LIF), working alongside senior D&I team members
Broader D&I Contributions
Contribute to D&I analytics and impact operations workstreams as capacity allows, including dashboard interpretation, metric consistency, and data quality efforts
Support Generation’s Colombia affiliate in building data and MEL capacity, serving as an embedded resource that adds value beyond the evaluation grant
Participate in D&I team calls and knowledge-sharing; contribute Colombian and LATAM workforce development context to global discussions
Gain exposure to broader D&I strategic agenda, including data governance, impact narrative development, and Generation’s global measurement approach
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required experience and skills:
3–5 years of experience in monitoring & evaluation, research, consulting, analytics, or related fields, with meaningful MEL exposure
Strong structured thinking and problem-solving ability
Familiarity with MEL frameworks, indicator development, data collection methods, and theory of change
Strong project management and coordination skills; comfortable owning timelines, trackers, and multi-stakeholder workflows
Comfort working with data and survey tools (Excel required; SQL, Alchemer/Qualtrics, or Power BI a plus)
Ability to operate independently with moderate ambiguity
Intellectual curiosity and high attention to detail
Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) and strong professional proficiency in English; bilingual communication across internal and external stakeholders
Preferred experience and skills:
Experience in workforce development, economic mobility, education, or related social sector work in LATAM or similar emerging market contexts
Hands-on experience with survey design, piloting, and field data collection logistics; familiarity with common survey platforms
Experience working with dashboards (e.g., Power BI) and interpreting metrics
Experience working with or coordinating external research vendors or evaluation firms
Experience preparing materials for senior leadership or funders
Mindset:
Structured thinker who naturally breaks down ambiguous questions into clear components and approaches.
Intellectually curious and motivated to understand the “why” behind outcomes, not just produce analysis.
Comfortable operating with moderate ambiguity while maintaining high standards for clarity and rigor.
Eager to learn and grow into greater ownership, receptive to feedback, and motivated by development.
Collaborative and low-ego, able to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders to refine ideas and strengthen outputs.
