WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Medical Records Specialist - Full time
Location: Onsite Arlington Heights
Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5:30 pm
WHAT A TYPICAL DAY LOOKS LIKE:
Answering of departmental calls, professionally and courteously assisting patients with their requests
Maintaining and filing of all patient records
Retrieve records in an accurate and timely manner for patient care, quality review and audits
Ensure all requests for records are date stamped received and logged in the correspondence log book
Notify requester when records become available
Perform all record functions while confidentially maintaining and protecting patient information by adhering to the HIPAA Privacy Rule
Responsible for the processing of subpoenas and court orders, at the direction of HIMS director
Coordinate the release of medical information to insurance companies, lawyers, state and federal agencies
Verify authorizations in accordance with facility policy and procedure, in addition to state and federal regulatory laws
Process payments for the release of records
Maintain and foster a positive working relationship with all departments at our multiple locations
Perform all other duties as assigned
QUALITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

Ability to work independently, organized with a focus on attention to detail
Determine appropriate and decisive course of action in complex situations
Complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner
Ability to be resourceful and take initiative when issues arise
Manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities, with ability to prioritize tasks
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Relevant prior experience favored working in medical/office setting
Knowledge of health information management services
Prior data entry/word processing experience, preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, preferred
Medical terminology knowledge is a plus
