Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Insurance Authorization Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for obtaining prior authorizations, verifying insurance benefits, and ensuring patients receive timely approval for therapy services. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, insurance knowledge, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This position will also be cross-trained in all front office operations and expected to work collaboratively to support daily clinic operations.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Obtain prior authorizations and referrals for patient services as required by insurance carriers
Verify patient insurance benefits, coverage, and eligibility
Communicate with insurance companies regarding authorization status, requirements, and approvals
Track and maintain authorization records to ensure visits remain approved and compliant with payer requirements
Monitor authorization limits and request extensions when needed
Resolve authorization-related issues that may delay patient care or billing
Maintain accurate documentation within the clinic’s EMR or practice management system
Assist with front desk operations such as scheduling patient appointments, answering phones, greeting patients, etc., to help ensure smooth daily clinic flow
Work collaboratively with therapists and management to support overall clinic efficiency
Provide excellent customer service to patients and team members
Requirements:
Prior experience in medical insurance verification, authorizations, or medical billing preferred
Knowledge of insurance plans, referrals, and authorization processes
Experience with EMR or healthcare practice management systems preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Proficiency with computers and common office software
Bilingual
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in physical therapy, outpatient healthcare, or rehabilitation services
Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
