The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible to provide comprehensive health services to DOS,

DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The MLT performs lab tests and procedures, mostly

comprising of microscopic, bacteriological, hematologic, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic analyses on

samples of tissue, blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen. The MLT looks for clues to the absence,

presence, and extent of the causes and progression of diseases through accurate and efficient lab tests.

The position is on a Locum rotation, 30 days active and 120 days inactive.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect and process biological specimens for laboratory testing.

• Conduct routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and blood bank.

• Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues.

• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean laboratory environment.

• Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.

• Collaborate with pathologists and other medical staff to interpret results and ensure quality patient

care.

• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

• Actively participates in Mass Casualty exercises and events.

• Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are

client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory

bodies.

Additional Duties: Compliance with International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. policies and procedures. 

Required Skills and Knowledge:

• Current Certification with a nationally recognized registry such a MT (ASCP) or home country equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English in order to effectively communicate.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Experience on a military site working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.
• Have fluency in both oral and written English.

Experience Preferred:

• Minimum of 3 years recent experience as Medical Laboratory Technician including 6 months within the last year.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.

Education Required:

• Degree in medical laboratory technology or related field scientific field with an approved laboratory training program, or home country equivalent. 

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling, twisting.  
• Visual acuity. Minimal hearing loss.  
• Push/pull/carry minimum 50 lbs. 

Other Special Qualifications:

• • Obtain medical clearance and maintain current immunizations.
• Must be able to relocate to Balad, Iraq.
• A valid passport from country of record is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation.
• You must maintain a current passport during your stay in Balad.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data..
