About the role | Mō te tūranga:
We’re seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Core Laboratory in Wairau. This is a fixed-term, part-time position of 28 hours per fortnight. This role is based on weekends and offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop your skills, and contribute to essential laboratory operations.
In this role, you will support the daily functioning of the laboratory by performing routine and essential tasks with accuracy and care. You’ll maintain meticulous records, adhere to high-quality laboratory standards, and demonstrate strong attention to detail and organisational skills. This role requires someone who can work independently as well as part of a collaborative team, while contributing to a professional and patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, sort, and process specimens for testing in the laboratory.
Accurately enter patient and test information into laboratory systems.
Respond to enquiries professionally and provide patient-focused support.
Manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Demonstrate problem-solving skills and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
Learn new skills and adapt to changes in procedures and protocols.
Work independently and collaboratively as part of the laboratory team.
Take initiative in daily tasks while maintaining a friendly, professional approach.
About you | He kōrero mōu
To be successful in this role you need to have:
Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual or Interim Practicing Certificate.
Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, including safety, quality assurance, equipment use, and hands-on practical experience.
A team-oriented approach with initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work methodically while adhering to strict quality and procedural guidelines.
Enthusiasm for making a real difference in a close-knit community while contributing to high-quality patient care in a supportive laboratory team.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
