About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Core Laboratory department is on the lookout for a passionate and capable Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team in Wellington. This is a permanent, part-time position, working 64 hours per fortnight.
You will be willing to learn new skills, work well alone and as part of a team. Extremely well-organised, detail-oriented, and friendly with a strong focus on quality and customer service. The successful applicant must have a high degree of accuracy and be self-sufficient to excel in this role.
Key responsibilities include:
Barcoding, receipting, and preparing specimens as they arrive at the laboratory.
Entering patient and test details accurately into the system.
Answering telephones and handling enquiries professionally.
Work well under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of accuracy.
Be willing to learn new skills and adapt to changing procedures.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Maintain a friendly, customer-focused approach at all times.
Show initiative and be self-sufficient in your day-to-day tasks.

To be successful in this role you will need:
The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines
A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
Excellent attention to detail, with good record keeping skills
The ability to work independently, while in a supported role.
Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
A sound knowledge of laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified
