GeoSpectrum is growing and has a new career opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician!
Reporting to the Manager of Technical Assembly and Technology, the Mechanical Technician plays a hands‑on role in the assembly and testing of complex electro‑mechanical and electro‑acoustic components and systems. This position offers the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of product design while contributing to the ongoing refinement of assembly processes and technical documentation.
The role includes part preparation, assembling components to standardized plans, conducting quality control inspections, and performing testing activities. The Mechanical Technician also supports continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on processes, instructions, and product documentation.

Responsibilities
Read and interpret detailed technical documentation, including drawings, assembly procedures, routing cards, schematics, and bills of materials.
Assemble transducer products and systems, performing mechanical, bonded, electro‑mechanical, and encapsulated assemblies, as well as component modifications using workshop tooling.
Conduct a variety of product tests, such as hydrostatic pressure testing, incoming inspection of complex machined components, load testing, environmental testing, and electro‑acoustic testing and characterization using specialized equipment and methods.
Complete and maintain thorough build and test documentation, verify product compliance with established quality standards, and sign off on key build stages.
Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting refinements to product design, build documentation, and assembly processes through change records and red‑line updates during production.
Collaborate as part of a skilled, interdisciplinary team to troubleshoot and resolve production and assembly issues, working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
Prepare materials for assembly through solvent cleaning and abrasive surface preparation.
Safely handle and apply various chemicals, adhesives, and compounds to bond and encapsulate components.
Accurately record production and quality activities in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
Identify non‑conforming parts or products and follow established quarantine and quality procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free work environment by caring for equipment, keeping the production floor orderly, and adhering to all health and safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Formal technical or technology training from a recognized college or university.
Prior experience working with equipment intended for underwater use, including electro‑mechanical devices.
Experience assembling complex mechanical systems and components; background in test engineering, bonded assembly, or encapsulation is considered an asset.
Strong computer literacy, with the ability to update, release, and reference technical and engineering documentation.
Excellent reading comprehension, written communication, and technical documentation skills.
Experience with engineering documentation, or a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn.
Solution‑oriented mindset with the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
Occupational Health and Safety and WHMIS certification, or the ability to successfully obtain certification.
Security Requirements
