Position Summary
The Mechanical Superintendent Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical construction activities across assigned projects. This role ensures that mechanical work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards.
The Mechanical Superintendent Lead provides field leadership to mechanical crews, coordinates closely with project management and other trades, and ensures adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and client requirements. This position plays a critical role in driving project success through effective planning, supervision, and execution of mechanical systems installation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Field Operations & Supervision
Lead and supervise all mechanical construction activities, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related systems.
Oversee daily field operations, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Direct and coordinate mechanical crews, subcontractors, and field personnel.
Monitor workforce productivity, manpower allocation, and work sequencing.
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Project Coordination & Execution
Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and other Superintendents to align mechanical work with overall project schedules.
Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure accurate field implementation.
Identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and coordination challenges across trades.
Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress meetings.
Ensure timely completion of mechanical milestones and deliverables.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce company safety policies and procedures across all mechanical operations.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ensure adherence to OSHA and project-specific safety requirements.
Monitor job site conditions to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
Ensure compliance with federal, local, and contractual requirements, including base access and site regulations where applicable.
Quality Control & Assurance
Ensure all mechanical installations meet project specifications, codes, and quality standards.
Coordinate inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
Address deficiencies, punch list items, and corrective actions in a timely manner.
Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure adherence to approved methods and materials.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate daily reports, including manpower, production, and site conditions.
Track progress against schedules and report delays or risks to project leadership.
Review and verify timekeeping records and daily time sheets (DTS) for mechanical crews.
Assist in documentation required for certified payroll, billing, and compliance reporting.
Leadership & Team Development
Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to mechanical foremen and crew members.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment on-site.
Support workforce development, training, and performance improvement initiatives.
Assist in evaluating field personnel performance and identifying growth opportunities.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in mechanical construction, including at least five (5) years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and industry standards.
• Proven experience managing field crews, subcontractors, and multi-trade coordination.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA) and federal project requirements (e.g., NAVFAC standards preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and construction management tools.
