Job Description
About the role:
The AI Research Division of Agile Robots is looking for a Mechanical Prototyping Engineer (m/f/d) Robotics to help with the design, prototyping and assembly of custom robotic cells, fixtures and workstations. Working closely with senior engineers, you will turn concepts into robust, manufacturable solutions, while maintaining hands-on experience with 3D printing, assembly, and testing.
Your Responsibilities:
• CAD & Drawings: Create and update SolidWorks 3D models and 2D drawings, and prepare complete manufacturing packages for internal or external production.
• Prototyping Builds: Use 3D printing and simple machining/laser tools to create and iterate prototypes that support ongoing AI experiments.
• Assembly Work: Assemble mechanical components such as profiles, grippers, robots, sensors and fixtures, and support the upkeep of PoC and test setups.
• Design Checks: Perform basic fit, collision and stiffness checks under guidance to ensure designs integrate cleanly with the rest of the system.
• Documentation & BOMs: Maintain clear documentation, including BOMs, assembly notes and as-built updates.
• Cross-team Integration: Work closely with electrical and software colleagues to ensure clean mechanical integration across the system.
Essential Skills:
• Relevant Training: Completed degree or technical training in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
• CAD Basics: First experience with SolidWorks, including the ability to adjust models and create structured drawings; PDM experience is a plus.
• Hands-on Mindset: Comfortable assembling mechanical parts and working directly with tools and prototypes.
• Design Fundamentals: Basic understanding of tolerances, materials, manufacturability and how they influence real-world hardware.
• Technical Literacy: Ability to read drawings and technical documentation and carry out tasks with limited supervision.
Beneficial Skills:
• Experience in robotics, automation or system integration.
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools and simple jigs/fixtures.
• Awareness of CE/Machinery Directive basics.
• Basic knowledge of sensors, electronics or camera systems.
What we offer:
