GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc., (GTI) specializes in underwater acoustic transducers and systems and has been recognized as a leading provider of specialized acoustic equipment for a variety of applications including military sonar (multistatic-active, passive, mine hunting), marine mammal monitoring, and ocean observation. GTI’s ability to provide integrated, end-to-end sonar systems, including everything from software to handling systems, sets us apart from the rest.
We are currently looking for an Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technologist to join our team for their summer 2026 work placement. The successful applicant will join our manufacturing team with a focus on mechanical assembly and test of complex underwater acoustic components and systems. We’re looking for someone detail-oriented and passionate about their work, with an ongoing desire improve their skills.
Responsibilities:
Work within our experienced manufacturing team of skilled engineers, technologists and technicians to produce cutting edge marine acoustic technology
Assembly of transducer products and systems, including; mechanical assembly, bonded assembly, encapsulation and inspection
Product testing, including; hydrostatic pressure testing, load testing, product characterization using a variety of test devices and methods and environmental testing
Complete and maintain product build and test verification documentation. Assess product compliance to established quality standards
Maintain product documentation including assembly and test procedures
Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing group
Operate within a dynamic manufacturing environment in a safe manner, adhering to all safety precautions and procedures including the use of appropriate protective equipment
Supporting and ensuring adherence to our Quality Management System
Qualifications:
High mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanical assembly
Experience with equipment for underwater use, bonded assembly or encapsulation considered an asset
Detail-oriented and well organized
Experienced in reading engineering drawings, BoM’s and manufacturing procedures
Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Passionate about build and test and producing a quality product
Good teamwork and communication skills
Ability to wear personal protective equipment including safety shoes and respirator
