Job Description
About Knightscope
Knightscope is a security technology company building the Nation’s First Autonomous Security Force. The Company combines autonomous machines, advanced software, and human expertise to help protect people, property, and critical infrastructure. Knightscope’s long-term mission is to make the United States of America the safest country in the world
Job Summary
Knightscope is seeking a junior Mechanical Engineer to join our product development team and support multiple active hardware programs. In this role, you will contribute to mechanical design, component integration, and enclosure development across a portfolio that includes our K1 security robot platform, the K1H hardware upgrade program, and the H1 wearable sensor platform. You will work cross-functionally with electrical, software, and systems engineers in a fast-paced, gate-driven product development environment and grow alongside a first-of-its-kind product line.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, cross-program role for an engineer who is eager to own real hardware work across multiple product lines. You will support mechanical scope across robot and wearable platforms—including component packaging, enclosure design, system integration, and test support. You will be expected to make thoughtful tradeoffs and move the programs from prototyping through production.
This individual will support the full mechanical scope across a portfolio of wearable and robotic hardware products—including component evaluation, enclosure design, system integration, thermal management, and test support. The ideal candidate has some hands-on experience developing real-world products that integrate electronics into physical systems, with exposure to or interest in both rigid and soft goods design considerations. You move quickly from CAD to prototype, adapt easily as the design space evolves, and thrive in environments where not everything is fully defined.
Please include the Disney character that best describes you in your resume—and make sure to ask your interviewers the same.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Support mechanical design and integration for the H1 wearable platform and K1/K1H robot platforms across prototype phases of product development
Evaluate and integrate electrical components into wearable and robotic configurations.
Identify and resolve thermal constraints within a compact, body-worn form factor.
Develop enclosure, mounting, and packaging solutions for electronic components, including compute, sensors, and power systems
Identify and manage thermal, structural, and ergonomic constraints in a compact, body-worn system
Collaborate closely with electrical, software, and system engineering teams to resolve cross-functional tradeoffs
Support development of test plans, fixtures, and validation activities to ensure product performance and reliability
Work with external partners and vendors as needed to support design and manufacturing
Contribute to establishing scalable product development processes and best practices
Required Qualifications
S or M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
2–3 years of experience in product development or a related engineering role.
Exposure to a hardware product development cycle; having supported a product from concept through prototype or production a plus.
Exposure to or strong interest in soft goods, wearables, or body-worn products; direct experience a strong plus
Experience designing mechanical systems that integrate electronics
Proficiency in CAD tools (Solidworks, Fusion360)
Familiarity with thermal design and management in compact, sealed enclosures
Hands-on prototyping experience; comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage program environment with ambiguous and incomplete requirements and aggressive milestones,
Strong cross-functional communication skills; ability to work effectively with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams
Have a roll-up-the-sleeves, can-do attitude
