Mechanical Engineer – FPS & HVAC (Substation)

PROJECT DETAILS (DETAILED)
This position is part of a major Transmission & Substation package in Kutch, Gujarat. The scope includes:
Substation Package – Main Pooling Station (MPS) Development
• Voltage Level: 400 kV & 765 kV
• Site: 765/400 kV Main Pooling Station (Z2-MPSS), Kutch Z2
Purpose:
• To aggregate power from multiple Sub-Pooling Stations (SPSS) under the Renewable Energy Zone development.
• Acts as the central node for evacuation of high-capacity renewable energy from Kutch to the national grid.
Components Covered:
• GIS/AIS bays
• Control rooms
• Fire Protection Systems (FPS)
• HVAC systems for control rooms, equipment rooms & GIS halls
• Mechanical utilities
• DG rooms, pump rooms & ancillary buildings
• This is a large-scale, multi-EPC coordinated PMC assignment requiring strong technical, safety, and coordination expertise.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Mechanical Engineer – FPS & HVAC will oversee all mechanical works related to Fire Protection Systems and HVAC installations for 400/765 kV Substation facilities. This role requires deep technical understanding, site execution monitoring, quality assurance, contractor coordination, and compliance with industry standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Engineering & Technical Oversight
• Review and validate mechanical design documents, drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and technical calculations for FPS & HVAC.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, NBC, IS/IEC standards and project specifications.
• Verify mechanical equipment sizing: pumps, AHUs, FCUs, ducting, hydrants, sprinklers, fire alarms, ventilation systems, etc.
• Check vendor submissions, equipment data sheets, technical catalogues and material approvals.
2. Site Execution Monitoring
• Supervise day-to-day installation and erection of FPS and HVAC systems.
• Inspect pump rooms, sprinkler networks, hydrant lines, fire water tanks, FE panels, detectors, and extinguishers.
• Monitor HVAC ducting, insulation, indoor/outdoor units, GI sheet works, cable trays, exhaust fans & ventilation systems.
• Verify routing of pipelines, ducting, and mechanical services in coordination with Civil & Electrical teams.
3. Testing, Inspection & Commissioning
• Conduct FAT, SAT, pressure tests, pump tests, and functional testing of fire systems.
• Oversee HVAC system balancing, leakage testing, airflow measurements, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure complete documentation and sign-off as per PMC standards.
4. Coordination & Interface Management
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, Civil, Electrical & Safety teams.
• Participate in technical meetings, progress reviews and ensure closure of site issues.
• Report progress to Project Manager and highlight deviations, risks, delays.
5. Safety, Quality & Compliance
• Ensure adherence to project quality plans, method statements, and inspection checklists.
• Follow TCE / client safety protocols and ensure all mechanical installations meet operational safety requirements.
• Maintain site records, inspection reports, punch lists, and mechanical logs.
6. Documentation & Reporting
• Prepare daily/weekly MIS reports.
• Maintain red-marked drawings and as-built documentation.
• Support final handover documentation and certification process.
