For this role in Oakville, Ontario, The hourly wage range for this position is CAD $25 to $35 per hour. The actual wage offered will be determined based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, applicable market data for the work location, and internal equity considerations.
Come join us at Terrestrial Energy, a US developer of advanced, Generation IV nuclear reactors. We are growing our workforce to develop and deploy our Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) small modular nuclear plant to provide cost-competitive, clean firm heat and power to industry.
The Company has recently completed a merger creating a publicly listed operating company (NASDAQ “IMSR”), to secure the capital resources for our next growth phase. With the current alignment of US Federal and State government, as well as industry interest in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and advanced reactor technologies such as Terrestrial Energy’s IMSR, there is today a unique and compelling opportunity to participate in the execution of the company’s growth business plan.

Have the specific skillset and experience for the following role:
The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern, under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, is primarily responsible for aiding the Mechanical Design team in the design, development and analysis of mechanical systems.
Other Responsibilities Include:
Prepare & edit calculations, analysis and assessment documents for the development of system and equipment design
Conduct research for design development and optimization
Facilitate communication and work with various technical disciplines to understand system design(s) and interfacing requirements
Coordinate and interface with the plant layout lead in the development of 3D CAD for the responsible mechanical systems
Assist in the development of design specifications to align with project requirements and industry standards
Contribute to timely resolution of mechanical design challenges and address risks
Participate in design review meetings to provide input, feedback, and support for design validation and improvement
Coordinate and support work with other disciplines
Conduct presentations to interdisciplinary team and external parties
Interface with external vendors, experts and design agencies
Exposure to nuclear, thermal, mechanical analysis and design of systems and components in relation to the reactor system
Exposure to reactor engineering design and analysis in neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, and/or radiation for steady state and transient conditions, including transport and Monte Carlo methods

Requirements:
Education
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Experience
Academic, co-op, or project experience involving mechanical design, analysis, prototyping, testing, or technical documentation
Exposure to industry tools, lab equipment, or engineering workflows through coursework, student projects, or internships
Technical Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles (e.g., statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials, fluid mechanics)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation

Familiarity with data analysis tools or simulation/FEA tools (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS) is considered an asset
