Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Reports to: Global Manager, Mechanical & Hydraulic Development
Location: Onsite, North Tonawanda, NY

In this role of Technical Leader, you will play a pivotal role in driving value stream activities including new product development and enhancement of existing products. As technical leaders, individuals drive optimization of electromechanical package systems and provide solution to technical challenges through team collaboration. Promotes culture of innovation and experimental activities among value stream. Your responsibilities will include mechanical package design ensuring design modifications meet both functional and manufacturing requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of product designs.
Key Accountabilities
Design & Development
Design simple to complex package system including pump, fittings, piping, valve and control system.
Perform Engineering calculation with minimal supervision.
Apply design-for-assembly principles and cost considerations throughout the design process.
Create mechanical models and CAD drawings for new products and maintain existing product designs.
Prepare detailed, production-quality CAD drawings and review for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to perform thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to optimize performance of package system over equipment performance.
Ability to apply appropriate GD &T within component drawing based on the assembly and controlling key design aspect.
Perform tolerance stack-ups for sub-assemblies and assemblies.
Contribute to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and other product-related analyses.
Participate and lead detailed design review for new components and product launches.
Collaboration & Problem Solving
Work closely with cross functional teams in value stream such as product teams, quality and manufacturing personnel to address design challenges and resolve issues.
Lead technical discussion among value stream/ community.
Collaborate with suppliers and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary product certifications.
Engage with sales and customer service teams to understand and address customer-driven needs.
Documentation & Process Improvement
Maintain BOM & Drawings in PLM system.
Provide input on process improvements, including opportunities to enhance documentation practices and design efficiency.
Liaise with testing and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary certifications.
Develop and adhere to internal and global design standards.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
5+ years of experience working with design engineering in manufacturing environment.
Knowledge or experience of centrifugal pump design and manufacturing is an asset.
Experience in designing pumping packages is a plus.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards.
Experience in designing electromechanical systems and controls (preferred).
Experience with PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Infor, SAP).
Familiarity with scripting (e.g. Python)/SolidWorks APIs, Macros, and/or other design/development automation technics is a strong asset
