An advanced energy technology company is seeking an experienced Materials Scientist to lead the research, development, and qualification of next-generation materials for compact, high-performance energy systems. This role will play a critical part in developing high-temperature alloys, ceramics, coatings, and composite materials used in structural, thermal, and fuel-related applications. The ideal candidate has experience working in highly regulated technical environments and thrives in fast-paced, innovation-driven settings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead development and characterization of advanced materials for high-temperature and high-reliability applications
• Evaluate material performance under extreme environments including elevated temperature, radiation exposure, and corrosive conditions
• Support integration of advanced manufacturing methods, including metal additive manufacturing and powder-based processing
• Perform microstructural and mechanical characterization using techniques such as SEM, EDS, XRD, and tensile testing
• Contribute to fuel-form and coating material development initiatives
• Develop and maintain material property databases to support modeling and simulation efforts
• Participate in materials qualification programs and experimental testing campaigns
• Collaborate with external research institutions, laboratories, and supply chain partners
• Author technical documentation and support design reviews
Qualifications :
• Ph.D. or M.S. in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field
• 5–10 years of experience in advanced materials R&D within nuclear, aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated industries
• Expertise in high-temperature materials, ceramics, coatings, and metal alloys
• Experience with additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, or sintering processes
• Familiarity with irradiation effects, radiation damage mechanisms, and corrosion behavior
• Strong analytical, experimental, and technical communication skills
• U.S. citizenship or eligibility for security clearance may be required
