Job Summary:
The Material manager will be responsible for managing the warehouse operations at the customer facility. This includes overseeing all material-related activities, such as forecasting, inventory management, procurement, and ensuring timely availability of materials for locomotive maintenance. The Material manager will also lead a team of Material Specialists and collaborate closely with the Technical team to support efficient and effective project execution.
 
This role will be based in Guinea near the port of Morebaya on a rotational basis (FIFO) of 60 days ON (in Guinea) and 15 days OFF (in the home country).
The operation is 24/7 running two 12 hour shifts. Employees will work 6 days a week one shift.
Accommodation will be provided at the maintenance facility. Mobilization and demobilization air and land transportation will be provided.
You will keep the employment contract with the Wabtec company where you are currently located.
This role will be eligible for an assignment allowance and overtime.
 
Responsibilities:
Material Planning and Forecasting:
• Develop and maintain accurate forecasts for material requirements based on project schedules, repair plans, and historical data.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand material needs and ensure timely procurement to meet project timelines
• Continuously monitor market trends, industry developments, and customer demand to optimize material planning strategies
Inventory Management:
• Oversee inventory control and management, ensuring accurate stock levels and maximizing cost-effectiveness
• Develop and implement inventory optimization strategies, including setting reorder points, safety stock levels, and inventory replenishment (parts & reman) processes.
• Conduct regular audits and cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
• MRP (e.g. Oracle) management inclusion of receiving, dispatching, NCRs and other related activities 
Warehouse Operations:
• Oversee the day-to-day warehouse operations, including material receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping.
• Implement and maintain efficient warehouse layout and organization to optimize space utilization and streamline material flow.
• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
Logistics:
• Facilitate movement of material between Guinea and other countries such as USA, India and South Africa
• Implement and execute on customs clearance process in partnership internal and external customs teams.
• Develop operational policies to improve efficiency and productivity in the supply chain.
Team Leadership and Development:
• Lead a team of Material Specialists, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities, monitor progress, and ensure the team operates efficiently to support project needs.
• Continuously evaluate and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
• Facilitate training and development opportunities for the team to enhance their skills and knowledge in material planning and warehouse management.
 
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience in material planning and warehouse management may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proven experience in material planning, forecasting, inventory management, and procurement within a manufacturing, engineering, or maintenance environment.
• Strong knowledge of supply chain principles, inventory control methodologies, and warehouse management systems.
• Familiarity with forecasting techniques, demand planning, and inventory optimization strategies.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficient in using computer systems and software app
• Must be able to read/write/speak fluently English. Ability to read, write and speak French or Mandarin will be added advantage.
