Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour (starting rate)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM – 2:30 PM
We are currently hiring a Material Handler / Telehandler Operator for a structural steel fabrication environment in York, PA. This is a full-time, first-shift opportunity offering competitive starting pay.
Position Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for handling and moving structural steel materials within a fabrication yard using powered equipment. You’ll support daily operations by ensuring materials are properly staged, organized, and ready for production or shipment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate telehandler/forklift to safely move, stage, and load/unload structural steel materials including I-beams, columns, and fabricated components in the yard
• Organize and maintain yard inventory, ensuring materials are properly staged for fabrication, shipping, and erection schedules
• Read and interpret shop drawings, pick lists, and material tags to accurately identify and handle steel components
• Assist with loading trucks, securing loads, and coordinating with drivers and shop personnel to ensure timely deliveries
• Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report any mechanical or safety issues
• Maintain a safe work environment by following company policies, proper rigging practices, and OSHA safety standards
Requirements::
• Experience operating telehandlers, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment in a steel yard or construction environment
• Ability to safely handle large structural steel members (I-beams, plates, columns)
• Basic blueprint or material tag reading experience preferred
• Knowledge of rigging, load balancing, and safe material handling practices
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs as needed
• Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
