Blackstone Industrial is looking for a creative and enthusiastic Marketing & Communications Assistant to join our growing team. Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Assistant will play a central role in creating and distributing internal communications, developing marketing content and overseeing our promotional program. The ideal candidate for this dynamic position will thrive in a high energy team environment and a multi-tasker who enjoys managing many diverse projects.
This position is based out of our Houston office with possibly some occasional travel to our offices in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Communication:
Produce and distribute internal news, announcements, and other internal communications materials.
Digital Newsletter: collect information from the team, produce and distribute the monthly internal digital newsletter (“The Rotation”). Liaise with subject matter experts within the company and compile engaging slides.
Actively contribute to enhancing employee engagement and adoption rates of communication initiatives.
Keep up-to-date and grow resources, news, and new content on our internal SharePoint sites (Marketing Site, HomePage…).
Content Development:
Provide support with research, information gathering, interviews, writing, and production of external marketing material such as case studies, news posts, brochures, PowerPoint presentations.
Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather information and content.
Ensure consistency with brand guidelines and support the wider team in complying with these branding guidelines.
Create and update internal documents such as templates, letterheads, PowerPoint and other files as needed
Basic graphic design including formatting PowerPoint presentations, designing posters and creating icons (proficiency in canva an asset)
Promotional Program, Merchandise and Branded Goods:
Order branded products/swag such as business cards and promotional goods
Manage our internal Promotional Program: produce and publish internal Canadian and US merchandise catalogs twice a year, manage promotional item ordering and sourcing, oversee e-stores, track deliveries, manage inventory, and handle invoicing while adhering to budgets and researching best quotes.
Corporate Event Coordination:
Assist in planning and facilitating corporate events. Research event ideas and venues, creating invitations, registration forms, coordinate guests lists, planning, logistics, volunteers, get quotes from venues, etc.
Administrative Support:
Ad hoc/administrative tasks where required.
Assist with budget tracking, invoice processing, and expense reports.
Maintain marketing databases and contact lists.
Qualifications & Experience:
Completed Degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
1-2 years of experience in a marketing or communications position or related role, experience in B2B/Professional Services industry is considered an asset. New grads with relevant internship/volunteer/co-op experience are welcome.
Ideally some experience with a variety of marketing functions, including: communications, branding, digital marketing, events, social media and general marketing administration.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Advanced Level required. Ability to learn and adapt to new and emerging software and systems.
Basic skills and experience with graphic design software's (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with knowledge of adapting writing for various media/audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
A creative mindset with the ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions.
Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail, takes pride in producing high-quality work.
Flexibility in an environment of shifting priorities and deliverable timeframes.
Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve them.
Familiarity with other marketing software/tools (e.g., Google Analytics, MailChimp.) is an asset.
Experience using social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer) is an asset.
Keen eye for photography and filming with the ability to use a camera to capture high-quality images and videos would be an asset.
Experience with video editing software and photography is an asset.
Familiarity with the energy sector is an asset.
