The Marine Freight Coordinator is responsible for securing competitive ocean freight capacity and ensuring the smooth execution of international shipments. This role serves as a key operational escalation point, coordinating with carriers and internal teams to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and maintain reliable, cost-effective service in a fast-paced logistics environment.
The Marine Freight Coordinator will be a part of the global freight team and will be based in Thessaloniki, Greece reporting directly to the Director of Global Marine Freight. Below are some duties:
• Procure and negotiate ocean freight rates, space, and service contracts with carriers and NVOCCs.
• Serve as the operational escalation point, resolving issues across scheduling, capacity, documentation, invoicing, and cargo movement.
• Coordinate with carriers and internal teams (Logistics, Sales) to ensure smooth execution and service reliability.
• Monitor carrier performance, allocation usage, and market conditions to support routing decisions and forecasting.
• Identify and mitigate risks (delays, rollovers, port disruptions) to minimize cost and service impact.
• Maintain accurate records, ensure documentation compliance, and support audit readiness.
• Drive continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency, visibility, and scalability.
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong organization and attention to detail.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in international ocean freight, with a carrier, NVOCC, or freight forwarder.
• Strong knowledge of maritime transportation, carrier operations, and shipping documentation.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas) and MS Office tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues proactively.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication, with the ability to coordinate across internal teams and external partners.
• Process-oriented mindset with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
• Understanding of carrier contracts, service agreements, and rate structures and export regulations.
• Fluency in English (written and verbal).
