Join our team for a summer internship focused on marine ecology and environmental permitting, ideal for someone passionate about the marine and nearshore environment, wetlands, detail‑oriented, proactive, and eager to gain real‑world experience in this field.
This is an in-person position based in Burlington, WA and is approximately 20–30 hours per week.
What You’ll Do
Support environmental permitting projects across Skagit, Whatcom, Island, and Snohomish counties
Assist with research, documentation, and project coordination for marine and freshwater permitting efforts
Prepare and organize administrative materials, including permit applications, agency correspondence, and project records
Help compile paperwork and submittals for County, State, and Federal regulatory agencies
Track project timelines, deliverables, and permitting requirements to support smooth workflow
Participate in occasional field outings to shadow wetland delineations, forage fish surveys, and other site‑specific assessments
Qualifications
Be pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Marine Biology, or other relevant fields
Comfortable working with permitting documents and regulatory guidelines
Willing to take initiative and work both independently and with a team
Strong interest in marine and environmental science
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
Strong scientific writing skills
Proficient with basic office software and digital organization
Strong communicator, organized, and engaged
