If you are passionate about commercial insurance and want to be part of a team revolutionizing the space, we are looking for a Marine Cargo Underwriter to join our expanding team.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Director, the Marine Cargo Underwriter will assess and underwrite risks submitted by brokers, ensuring high-quality risk selection to achieve optimal profitability. This role involves determining terms and pricing, leveraging team expertise when needed, and justifying decisions—including risk rejections—clearly and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
New Business
Liaise with brokers to negotiate and determine insurance rates, terms, and conditions
Develop, underwrite, and service new business in line with program guidelines
Build strong relationships with brokers through exceptional service and regular marketing visits
Represent Revau at industry events, as required
Renewals
Collaborate with colleagues on current and future opportunities
Review policies, wordings, and standards to ensure compliance with programs
Confirm underwriting standards align with contracts and program needs
Mentor Junior Underwriters on policy and contract compliance
Endorsements & Policy Changes
Approve requested endorsements and pricing according to program guidelines
Authorize policy cancellations when necessary
Profile / Requirements
5–7 years of experience in Marine Cargo Insurance
Insurance diploma is an asset
Strong relationship-building skills with brokers and colleagues
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills
Ability to synthesize complex information and adapt to change
Strong communication and service orientation
Proficiency in MS Office; Lotus Notes experience is a plus
