Role Overview
The Managing Director, Head of NextGen Client Development and Solutions will play a senior leadership role within the NextGen organisation, supporting the continued growth and evolution of the business. Reporting to the Global Head of NextGen Business Development and Digital Wealth, this role is responsible for helping translate State Street Investment Management’s strategic priorities into actionable NextGen client development plans, market engagement priorities, and new solution opportunities.
The role leads the development of client and partner opportunity frameworks, supports the prioritisation of key growth initiatives, and works across functions to shape differentiated, commercially viable solutions aligned with the firm’s broader direction. This position serves as a senior growth and market development leader for NextGen, with a strong focus on execution, commercial innovation, and scalable business development.
This is a highly visible role requiring strong strategic and commercial judgement, experience operating within complex matrixed organisations, and a clear understanding of how new distribution models, partnerships, and client-centric innovation are shaping the future of asset and wealth management.
Primary Responsibilities
• Partner with the Global Head of NextGen Business Development and Digital Wealth to support execution of the NextGen growth agenda in line with State Street Investment Management strategic priorities
• Translate firm and business priorities into clear NextGen client development plans, commercial focus areas, and solution development initiatives
• Develop and maintain a structured framework to prioritise target clients, strategic partners, market segments, and growth opportunities based on strategic fit, scalability, economics, and execution readiness
• Identify and assess emerging client needs, market opportunities, and ecosystem developments across digital wealth, direct retail, strategic platforms, and adjacent channels
• Lead the development of differentiated NextGen propositions and client solutions, including commercial rationale, operating model considerations, business case support, and internal mobilisation requirements
• Work closely with cross-functional partners across distribution, product, investments, capital markets, legal, compliance, operations, technology, and marketing to shape and advance new opportunities
• Support executive decision-making through high-quality analysis, structured recommendations, and senior management materials
• Drive strategic growth projects related to client development, market expansion, new commercial models, and solution innovation
• Help ensure NextGen resources and efforts are focused on the highest-value opportunities and aligned with broader firm objectives
• Represent NextGen internally as a senior leader able to connect market insights, client opportunities, and commercial execution in a practical and collaborative manner
Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience in asset management, wealth management, fintech, financial services, management consulting, business development, market development, or strategy and solution roles
• Significant experience in client development, strategic partnerships, market expansion, commercial innovation, or solution design
• Strong understanding of the evolving asset and wealth management landscape, including digital distribution, platform models, wealth ecosystems, and emerging client needs
• Demonstrated ability to assess market opportunities and translate them into actionable commercial plans and business initiatives
• Proven experience developing business cases, prioritisation frameworks, executive recommendations, and cross-functional growth plans
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across a matrixed global organisation
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to produce clear, senior-level materials and articulate complex ideas simply and effectively
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience at a leading strategy consulting firm and/or in a senior commercial or market development role within asset management, wealth management, or fintech
• Familiarity with direct retail investing, digital wealth platforms, adviser platforms, strategic distribution partnerships, or platform-enabled business models
• Experience working across product, distribution, technology, and operating teams to develop and implement new client solutions
• Strong commercial instinct combined with a structured and disciplined approach to opportunity assessment and execution
• Demonstrated interest in innovation and industry transformation

Scope and Impact
This role is a key member of the NextGen leadership structure and contributes directly to the development of new growth opportunities, client development priorities, and differentiated solution models. The position supports the continued maturation of NextGen as a strategic growth engine for the firm, consistent with the NextGen operating plan, investment case, and targeted expansion across new distribution channels and commercial models.
