Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Health, the Community Wellness Coordinator is a highly skilled professional responsible for leading community wellness initiatives with a special focus on mental health and substance use. This role integrates harm reduction principles, culturally informed practices, and trauma-informed care to support individuals, families, and the community.
This role facilitates access to wellness programming, mental health services, and substance use support ensuring alignment with Ktunaxa worldviews and best practices. The position plays a pivotal role in fostering resilience and well-being within the community through advocacy, education, capacity-building, and system navigation.

Major Position Responsibilities:
Clinical & Nursing Oversight
Provide supervision and operational oversight nursing staff.
Provide supervision and oversight of front-line client services and administrative health supports.
Ensure compliance with professional standards and scope of practice.
Monitor documentation quality, chart audits, and incident reporting.
Coordinate clinical coverage and service scheduling.
Support quality improvement and risk management processes.
Ensure efficient reception, intake, appointment scheduling, referral coordination, and follow-up.
Oversee patient travel coordination processes to ensure timely, accurate submissions and compliance with funder guidelines and policies.
Ensure consistent and respectful communication with members accessing services.
Elder Care & Community Support Services
Provide oversight of elder care navigation and support services.
Ensure coordination of home support, homemaking, care navigation, and community-based assistance.
Oversee community transportation services, including scheduling, safety, documentation, and budget alignment.
Ensure services are delivered in a culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and respectful manner.
Staff Supervision & Performance Management
Provide direct supervision to clinical and client service staff.
Conduct supervision meetings and performance reviews.
Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention.
Foster accountability, professionalism, and collaborative team culture.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
Develop and manage clinical and client services budgets in collaboration with the Director.
Monitor expenditures, particularly patient travel and transportation costs.
Ensure financial documentation meets audit and funder requirements.
Prepare service utilization and budget reports.
Quality, Compliance & Risk
Oversee incident reporting and follow-up.
Ensure confidentiality standards are maintained.
Support development and implementation of clinical and administrative policies.
Liaise with FNHA and other regulatory bodies as required.
Escalate high-risk matters to the Director.
Working Conditions:
The role requires regular engagement with individuals experiencing trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges, as well as involvement in complex, confidential, and sensitive matters. Strong ethical judgment and discretion are required.
Travel within the community and region may be required.
Evening and weekend availability may be necessary for workshops or client support.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in nursing, health sciences, health administration, or a related field.
Registration as a regulated health professional (e.g., RN or equivalent) preferred.
Minimum 7 years’ experience in clinical service delivery, health administration, or community-based health systems, including supervisory responsibility and operational oversight.
Experience working with First Nations communities and a strong understanding of the impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and systemic barriers.
Knowledge of Indigenous health funding models, FNHA processes, and benefits administration systems.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices, traditions, and community values (or willingness to learn).
Demonstrated ability to build trust, maintain confidentiality, and engage effectively with individuals and families.
Experience in crisis intervention and case management preferred.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
Empathy, patience, and ability to work with individuals in vulnerable situations.
Ability to balance cultural approaches with professional health practices.
Organized with strong time management and documentation skills.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Commitment to ongoing learning in Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
Valid Driver's License
NOTE: A criminal check will be conducted on the successful applicant.
What we offer:
Starting salary between $85,000 to $95,000, depending on education and experience
Discretionary office closure between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as determined by the Council each year
