Job Description

The Manager of Applications Engineering is responsible for leading the technical proposal development process and overseeing the design of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plants and associated balance‑of‑system equipment. This role serves as a key technical authority for customers and internal teams, bridging sales, engineering, drafting, supply chain, and project management to deliver high‑quality, standardized, and scalable technical solutions.

The manager will direct the application engineering and drafting resources, improve proposal tools and customer‑facing technical materials, and accelerate the qualification and integration of critical components including batteries, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.


Requirements:
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Lead development of technical proposals supporting the sales process, including conceptual and detailed system designs.
• Review customer RFPs and translate requirements into system configurations, layouts, and performance expectations.
• Ensure proposals incorporate optimal equipment selection for batteries, inverters, transformers, MV/LV switchgear, breakers, capacitor banks, site‑wide UPS, and associated BOS equipment.
• Perform and/or oversee key electrical engineering calculations including load flow, short‑circuit, and arc‑flash analyses.
• Review and approve single‑line diagrams, layouts, schematics, cable sizing, and other engineering deliverables.
• Benchmark new technologies, evaluate supplier offerings, and integrate new components into baseline system designs.
• Lead the component qualification process for batteries, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
• Work closely with drafting, engineering, supply chain, sales, and project management to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and manufacturability of proposed solutions.
• Support RFIs, customer technical discussions, and contract exhibit preparation.
• Direct, plan, and manage application engineering and drafting resources to maximize efficiency, output quality, and consistency.
• Mentor and develop engineers, providing technical guidance and driving continuous improvement.
• Continuously enhance customer‑facing materials, internal engineering standards, and proposal automation tools.
• Establish and track KPIs on proposal throughput, accuracy, and efficiency
• Present solutions, system designs, and technical differentiators to customers.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert on Company’s BESS platform and system architecture.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding of LV and MV power systems, including protection, distribution, and equipment selection.
• String understanding of power electronics, battery systems, and utility scale battery energy storage systems operation, engineering, and design.
• Ability to develop and review single‑line diagrams, schematics, and layouts.
• Working knowledge of electrical calculations (fault current, ampacity, arc flash, etc.).
• Familiarity with industrial communications and EMS/SCADA interfaces.
• Ability to lead teams, manage workload distribution, and set performance objectives.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interface with customers and internal cross‑functional groups.
• String understanding of relevant industry standards (UL 1741, UL 9540, IEEE 1547, NEC).
• Understanding of procurement concepts including pricing, lead time, and warranty.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in application engineering, power systems engineering, or BESS/renewables engineering.
• Experience with BESS systems, inverters, transformers, MV/LV switchgear, or utility‑scale power systems preferred.
• Prior leadership or team management experience strongly preferred
