Responsible for all employment related activities, budgets, fiscal performance and quality assurance.Plans, organizes and directs staffing, hiring, orienting, scheduling, evaluating and continuing education initiatives.Develops and maintains department objectives and services. Resolves daily operational issues. Develops policies and procedures; ensures compliance. Assures proper functioning of instruments, equipment and computer systems.Develops and maintains Performance Improvement and quality control program. Ensures all laboratory testing methodologies exceed the quality assurance parameters mandated by national accrediting agencies and compliance standards.Prepares annual operating and capital budgets. Ensures efficient utilization of resources. Monitors, analyzes and justifies expense and revenue within departments.Manages laboratory operations with 4 out of the following 5 criteria:Annual Test Volume < 1,000,000; Budgeted FTE's < 90;Budgeted Gross Revenue < $90,000,000; Budgeted Expenses < $10,000,000; # Unique CPT codes < 150Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree Science, Business Administration or Health Administration. Master of Health Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Lab certification or license preferred.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years clinical laboratory experience. Three years laboratory management or supervisory experience required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to handle specimens and utilize instrumentation. Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials. May require frequent sitting or standing.
