Orla Mining is striving to be the emerging gold producer of choice with a geographically diversified asset base, a prospective development and exploration portfolio, an experienced management team with a successful track record, and a high-quality board and shareholder base. 

 

Orla operates the Camino Rojo Oxide Gold Mine, a gold and silver open-pit heap leach mine, located in Zacatecas State, Central Mexico. This low-cost operation is 100% owned by Orla, covers over 139,000 hectares, and includes a large sulphide mineral endowment located beneath the oxide resources.  We are also advancing permitting and development on our South Railroad Project, a feasibility-stage, open-pit heap leach project located on the prolific Carlin trend in Nevada. This project is part of our larger South Carlin Complex which includes a prospective land package. We recently acquired the Musselwhite Mine located in Northern Ontario on Lake Opapimiskan, a gold mine with more than 25 years of operating history. The addition of Musselwhite has allowed Orla to more than double our gold production and provide a strategic entry into a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction. The Musselwhite Mine is highly prospective with the potential to expand resources and mine life for years to come.

The purpose of this role is to design, implement, and oversee comprehensive health & wellness programs across our sites, providing access to resources that promote physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. This role is part of the Corporate Sustainability team.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

Lead the development of Orla’s Medical Services, Primary Healthcare and Wellness frameworks, including the design of the strategic initiatives, systems and supporting programs, contributing to the Sustainability Strategic plan.

Identify research backed best practices and emerging trends and integrate into strategic plans.

Work with site Health and Safety leaders, internal and external health and wellness teams, providing subject matter expertise to oversee medical services, healthcare and wellness programs within the workplace.

Responsible for contract governance for Medical and Wellness services for the operations to ensure highest level of care is provided.

Support the development and maintenance of medical emergency protocols for sites, including first aid, evacuation, and medical response in coordination with regional health authorities, medical facilities and emergency services.

Support site-specific medical risk evaluations (dust exposure, noise, fatigue, chemical hazards) and recommend mitigation strategies.

Build and maintain working relationships with external stakeholders, networks, regulatory bodies, technical experts, and equipment providers

Representing Orla on key medical/primary care bodies and associations.

Provide governance and oversight for health wellness programs, medical practices and patient Injury/Illness management, controlled substance management, to ensure compliance with applicable local, national, and international regulations.

Lead 2nd and 3rd line assurance activities.

Establish systems and processes for maintaining employee health records to ensure confidentiality and maintain compliance with privacy laws.

Support operations Health and Safety leads personnel to ensure appropriate health and wellness competency are in place per operational risk profiles.

Prepare reports as required related to health, medical and wellness programs.

Practice autonomously to provide direct patient care, including assessment and management of acute injuries and illnesses.

Maintain currency with medical practices and skills, through ongoing practice in various medical settings (Remote Community Practice, Emergency Department, Primary Care etc.).

Support HR and Medical teams with pre-employment medicals and Health surveillance programs [occupational exposure, lead and heavy metals testing], including case reviews patient consultation, and case management [work plan development].

Support the RTW for employees (occupational and non-occupational), ensuring appropriate precautionary, modified, or alternative duties/work environment are established to mitigate the aggravation of injury or illness and accommodate workers appropriately.

Lead wellness initiatives, including physiological testing (glucose, cholesterol, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal) tailored to remote settings and mining-related risks.

Skills and Experience:

 

Master of Science in Nursing with a Major in Family Nurse Practitioner.

A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Primary Care and Emergency Medicine, ideally within the Health Care or Mining sectors.

Family Nurse Practitioner expertise, promoting comprehensive end-to-end patient care, and strong patient advocacy.

Licensed to practice autonomously without physician supervision requirements.

Extensive leadership experience across Primary Care, Emergency Care, Remote care, and Advance Rural Specialty services.

Strong understanding of Occupational Health standards, ergonomics, mental health frameworks, and wellness best practices.

Demonstrated experience with Prescribe and Governance of controlled medications.

Proven track record of successfully managing multidisciplinary Health, Medical and Wellness teams (including RNs, ACPs, Physiotherapists, and Counseling professionals).

Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and execute large-scale wellness initiatives.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups.

Crisis management experience with sound judgment and considered action.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage employees at all organizational levels.

Valid license with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is required.

Required certifications include Remote Practice, CTAS, as well as Trauma Care.

Base Salary range: $ 180,000 to $ 195,000 per year.
