The Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Manager, Financial Reporting to join our Toronto finance team on a 1-year contract. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting and supporting business decision-making.
This role requires hands-on technical expertise, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of our financial statements and reporting processes. You will lead a small team of two direct reports while remaining actively involved in complex accounting procedures and providing key financial insights.

What You'll Do
• Financial Statement Preparation: Oversee and prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for VML Canada, ensuring compliance with IFRS and WPP accounting policies.
• Complex Journal Entries: Take a hands-on approach to prepare and review complex journal entries, providing guidance to direct reports and ensuring proper accounting treatment for intricate transactions.
• Compliance & Policy Adherence: Ensure all financial reporting activities adhere strictly to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and WPP internal accounting policies and guidelines.
• Variance Analysis: Conduct comprehensive monthly variance analysis, investigating significant fluctuations and providing clear, concise explanations to senior management.
• BFC Reporting: Manage and execute timely and accurate reporting submissions using the BFC (Business Financial Consolidation) system.
• Error Identification & Resolution: Utilize strong judgment and attention to detail to proactively identify potential errors or discrepancies in financial data and reports, implementing corrective actions swiftly.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Act as a key liaison, interfacing effectively with VML’s regional finance team and other senior finance members within VML Canada to ensure seamless financial operations and reporting.
• Corporate Tax Support: Provide support and accurate information for corporate tax calculations and filings, working closely with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance financial reporting processes, efficiency, and controls.
What You Bring
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation or CPA candidate is an asset
Experience:
• Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial reporting, preferably within a large, multinational organization or publicly traded company.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS
• Experience with corporate tax principles and supporting tax-related financial reporting.
• Previous experience working in an advertising, media, or professional services environment is an asset.
Technical Skills:
• Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, data modeling).
• Experience with Workday ERP system is a strong asset.
• Familiarity with BFC or similar consolidation systems.
Soft Skills:
• Strong attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with sound judgment.
• Ability to multitask effectively and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences.

The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range between the values at the bottom of this posting. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including location, business needs, level of responsibility, experience, and qualifications.

$65,000—$115,000 CAD
