Job Description
As a manager in the UNIX department your responsibilities will include management of IT personnel responsible for supporting and maintaining Enterprise IT UNIX/Linux Systems in a large scale (10,000+ system) high growth environment. This manager is responsible for the operational health of the UNIX operating systems that support T-Mobile’s most critical business transactions and require high availability. This position will be an agent of change, seeking and implementing ways to improve uptime and operational efficiency. Act as a liaison between technical team and executive management and to work effectively within and outside the organization to deliver value to the business. This role will be key in our incident management strategy.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years previous work experience in leadership/management
Has in-depth expertise in UNIX Systems administration and knowledge of the related disciplines
Applies expertise and experience in UNIX administration to improve processes and provide guidance to employees in that area
Desired
Minimum ten years of experience in a medium to large AIX and/or Linux environment.
Make decisions on complex issues, where previous experience outside of own area may be relevant
Knowledge with SAN, NAS based environments.
Knowledge of clustering software and techniques, packages and package failover.
Strong leadership skills, with an ability to lead and motivate a staff in a growing, flexible environment, utilizing diversity in approach and methodologies.
Understanding of the wireless industry and the operational support areas within a Wireless Enterprise are a plus.
Experience in network and system security.
Education
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or equivalent or an additional 5 years' IT Management experience in lieu of a degree.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate field marshal qualities and inspire subordinates to perform to their maximum potential
Anticipate and interprets client needs to identify solutions and proactively address potential and existing problems within workgroup.
Drive vendors and partners to deliver superior service to T-Mobile and provide maximum value to our business.
Develop processes and procedures to implement functional strategies
Manage the performance and behavior of direct reports through goal setting, ongoing assessment and coaching
Identifies/remediates technical employee knowledge gaps by creating individual development plans
Understands and communicates the Information Technology vision
Determine job design and short-term headcount requirements and provides input to long-term workforce planning
Support ongoing Peer development and works within a functional team to support a collaborative working relationship
Explain difficult concepts and persuades others to adopt a point of view.
