What does the role involve?   

Reporting to the Philanthropy and Development Manager, the Major Gifts Manager is responsible for identifying, cultivating and managing relationships with high-value supporter prospects, securing philanthropic support from individuals. 

Key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): 

Manage a defined portfolio of major donors and prospects to deliver agreed income and pipeline outcomes. 

Develop and implement clear, prioritised donor strategies that support retention, progression and long-term value. 

Deliver high quality stewardship and donor communications that build confidence, trust and sustained engagement. 

Play a key role in supporting Caritas Australia’s four priority major donor appeals across the year, attending and hosting engagements to strengthen relationships and drive impact. 

This role will work a hybrid model, including two days in the office per week.   

 

Who are we looking for?   

The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to Caritas Australia’s mission to end poverty and injustice by promoting human dignity for all, as well as a dedication to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching that guide our global efforts. They will have a mix of the following qualifications, skills and experience:     
 

Tertiary qualification in fundraising, marketing, communications, business, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience), with demonstrated success in high-value fundraising or relationship led roles. 

Exceptional communication, relationship building, and collaboration skills, with the ability to cultivate genuine, long-term supporter partnerships, work effectively across teams, and present compelling cases for support. 

Strong data literacy and CRM capability, using insights to prioritise, plan, and track fundraising activity, coupled with professional discretion and respect when handling sensitive information. 

Excellent writing, planning, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
