MAIT Operations Principal Engineer

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

As an AIT Operations Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating and organizing AIT activities within our facility in Planegg. You will play a key role in planning and executing AIT operations for the Qualification and Flight Models (QM and FM) of the Nyx-Earth project. Acting as a facilitator, you will ensure synchronized activities among various technical teams involved in AIT, including mechanical, electrical, propulsion, and thermal teams. You will also interface with different departments such as project management, Chief AIT, design, quality, and logistics to maintain effective coordination.

Responsibilities

• Team management: Lead a small team of Logistics Engineer in Munich and Bordeaux.

• AIT Schedule Management: Oversee and maintain the schedule for all assembly, integration, and testing activities, ensuring proper task allocation and adherence to deadlines.

• Coordination of AIT Stakeholders: Synchronize operations across mechanical, electrical, propulsion, and thermal teams, fostering proactive collaboration between departments. Lead the AIT daily meetings and weekly coordination meetings.

• Advance Preparation of Activities: Supervise task preparation, ensuring that hardware, procedures, and tools are available, verified, and ready for use.

• Cross-Departmental Interface: Work closely with project management, other AIT managers, design, quality, and logistics to address any issues or queries that may impact smooth activity progression.

• Procedure and Deadline Compliance: Ensure that all procedures are completed on time and coordinate with the quality team on corrective actions and task closure processes.

• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and support finalization of AIT reports, ensure accurate activity documentation, and maintain compliance with quality standards throughout the AIT process.

• Budget: You will support the consolidation of the budget concerning the AIT activities preparation and execution

Candidate Profile

• Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years in an AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Testing) role with at least 2 years in a similar coordination or management function.

• Project Management and Scheduling Skills: Strong capability to plan, prioritize, and manage AIT activities in a complex technical environment.

• Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and act as a central point of contact across departments.

• Organizational Skills and Proactivity: Structured approach to activity preparation and follow-up, with high attention to detail.

• AIT Tools and Quality Process Knowledge: Familiarity with quality standards and scheduling tools and a proven ability to oversee testing and documentation rigorously.

• Proactive and problem solver : Ability to push and reach out the adequate people to have a quick resolution of problems on the floor
